Zinc oxide cream is manufactured by many different manufactures, hence there are many different types on the market.
It is therefore advisable to use one manufactured from a reputable and well known manufacturer as opposed to any unknown one.
Zinc has a protective coating which helps in mild skin irritations and abrasions. It has also mild astringent and antiseptic properties.
Therefore, its uses are mainly for baby nappy rashes, poison ivy rashes and or any other similar types of rashes. Where the skin is irritated by something minor.

I have found this cream excellent to keep under control my anal itch, caused by my hemorrhoids. Just apply a little cream after every stool movement or after every shower. Make sure you wash and dry the area before use.
I used a zinc cream called Daktozin. I have found this cream to be very thick, and it was soiling my underpants. This was very irritating. The reason for this is that I was using too much cream at a time.
I have since found that all that is needed is a very little dab of this cream. That was enough to keep my anal itch at bay and keep my underpants clean.
The trick is to use a very little dab at a time, but also is to make sure you really rub it in very well.
This Cream comes in different strengths. For our purpose, which is to keep the itching under control, I would suggest to use the 40% to start off. Then when the itching has settled, you should continue with the 15% cream.
It is also available as an ointment, but I would rather stick to the cream version.
